Broxtowe Liberal Democrats have issued the following statement on 12th April 2012:
“On Wednesday and Thursday of this week an individual posted messages on Twitter making threats to cause serious harm to Councillor David Watts. The messages were of a particularly vile nature and have been reported to the police. Councillor Watts said:
“In 14 years of being on the council in Broxtowe I have never encountered anything like this before. They seem to be a clear attempt to intimidate me but I don’t scare easily and this individual will not prevent me doing what I believe to be right.”
The messages seem to have been prompted by the decision of the Development Control Committee on Broxtowe Borough Council to grant outline planning permission for a site at Field Farm in Stapleford. Councillor Watts was one of the seven councillors who voted in favour of the application.
Given that this is now a police matter we will not be making any further comment at this stage.”
